David Johnson was raised in Arlington Heights, Illinois in a family of four children. His father and mother owned a small glass company, Suburban Glass and Upholstery. He got his start in the family business working on Saturday’s and in the summer.
In 1979 his father had some health issues and sold his business. He moved his family to North Carolina and invested his proceeds into Interstate Glass and Upholstery.
After graduating high school David began working in his father’s glass business. Shortly thereafter he married Christine Peacock and they have raised four children. All who have worked in the business in some capacity growing up and learning the small business values of delivering better than expected customer service at a fair price, the same values David’s father had taught him.
After working in the family business for 8 years David’s father agreed to sell the Smithfield location to him and his sister Rachel. They dropped the upholstery and began focusing on expanding the glass business into additional markets expanding by doing more contract glazing projects.
In 1995 they added an additional partner in the business Richard Daughtry. Richard had been familiar with the business as the company’s CPA and he and David had a personal relationship through many civic organizations. A year later Rachel decided to leave the business and focus on her family.
Never losing site of the small business values of providing better than expected customer service at a fair price. David tells his employees it’s our job to WOW each and every customer in some way and they will keep coming back.
In the past 15 plus years with David’s vision and Richard’s practical business approach Interstate Glass continued to grow and expand to become Eastern North Carolina’s largest most respected Auto Glass provider.
The Company is in its 23rd year and continuing to grow. In the past year David’s middle son Walt, has joined the company as a third generation business member and the company is looking forward to many more years of WOWing its customers with better than expected service and a fair price
Richard Daughtry, although originally from Smithfield, NC, grew up in Asheboro, NC, with a family of four children. Upon finishing high school in Asheboro, Richard attended North Carolina State University, graduating in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting.
As fate would have it, after college Richard returned to his original home town to begin a career in public accounting with a local CPA firm. Richard became licensed as a CPA in 1986. Public accounting gave Richard to meet many successful business people and while assisting them with business and tax planning, also gain insight into how successful are started and operated.
In 1987 Richard married his high school sweetheart Donna Hunt of Asheboro. They moved into the old family home place and now have two adult children in college.
While working in public accounting Richard became active in several community civic organizations. During his tenure as president of the Smithfield Jaycees, Richard met then new member David Johnson
After going on to serve as Treasurer for the North Carolina Jaycees, Richard served as a board member of the Smithfield Jaycees during David Johnson’s tenure as President.
It was during this time that David and his sister Rachel purchased the Smithfield Interstate Glass from their father and Richard began working with them in a CPA capacity of business and tax planning.
In December of 1995 as Interstate Glass continued to grow and investigate expansion, Richard joined the business as partner and currently manages all finance and administration for the company.
Wearing numerous hats with our organization, Shanna Edwards has over 5 years of experience in the glass industry. And while helping customers is her number one priority, she supplies administrative support for many facets of our organization.
Emily Bass has been with Interstate Glass for over 8 years. As manager for all of our down east auto glass locations she is greatly appreciated by customers and insurance agents alike.
As the office manager of our corporate location in Smithfield, NC, Jill Norris has nearly 15 years of experience handling every type of glass need imaginable.
Jenny Langley manages our Durham location and has been with Interstate Glass for 8 years. Customers enjoy Jenny’s expertise and helpfulness with all their glass needs.
Lorraine has spent the last 14 years in the glass industry and is currently serving as the manager of the Rocky Mount, NC location for Interstate Glass.
Diane is the manager of our Wilson, NC location. With over 16 years of experience in the glass industry you can be assured of receiving the best service in the industry when speaking with her.
Durant McLean is the operations manager for Interstate Glass and supervises all glass technicians within our organization. With more than 20 years of experience in the industry he is often called upon by insurance claims managers and adjusters seeking his expertise.
